What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs to keep their employees motivated?
I would suggest talking to your employees, get to know them, find out what makes
them tick. If some people are more family oriented, have a family picnic. Get
people together and find out what they need.
What is the key to building strong relationships with your customers?
Have a sit down with them and say, “Hey, what are we doing right?” and “What can
we do better?”
What are some qualities that entrepreneurs should look for in a bank?
Some of the things that I ask for myself when looking for a bank are: “What can
they do for me? How responsive are they to my needs? Can they answer all the
questions that I have?” When you start out as an entrepreneur, you always have
questions. You want your banker to be knowledgeable, to respond quickly, and to
give you really good advice when you need it.
How do you manage your time wisely as a business owner?
During the day, everyone gets busy. It’s a good idea to take time first thing in
the morning to plan the major things you need to accomplish. As an entrepreneur,
you constantly go through change and a lot of interruptions, and you have to be
fast on your feet.
The people. I walk into the bank and they know who I am, they know what I need.
They are so friendly and so helpful. If I need a loan for anything, I can give
them a call and they’ll be responsive and let me know what I need to do. They
make it so much easier for me.
One specific way the bank really helped me was when they gave us a loan for
photovoltaic on our building. It helped us cut our costs. They put the loan
together in a couple of weeks. We got all our tax credits for the photovoltaic,
and we applied that great savings to pay back the loan. It was paid off in three
